A bit of progress – Some thoughts, collage experimentation, one design.

Nature and Technology

I recently started doing some scrapbooking in my personal journal and found myself remembering how I loved the art practice of collage.

As a past lecturer, this is something I integrated in my Interactive Photography class, as well as in my animation classes. Layers, movement, intersections, new shapes and new narratives emerging, tis often helped unlocking my creativity.

Working with found material was particularly inspiring to me and this really enables experimentation without the constraint of the initial blank page.

I found those two images online. I was drawn towards the lines and the contrast. I likes the way the lines intersect and create volume, shapes you can sense depths and dimensions to.

Thinking about Nature and Technology

A few keywords kept popping into my head as I was going through this piece which help determine a wider theme. I like the idea of the protective bubble, often found in nature. The shape coming back to me in this instance with the idea of a dandelion, and the way everything stems from the centre. Both fragile and resistant. The bubble integrated here also with the head piece, this time as a protector and preserving nature inside. FIBEROPTICS – CONNECTED – PLIABLE – STRONG – PROTECTITVE – SMALL LED MONITORS – DANDELION.

The lines and the black and white contrast inspired the idea of a protective mesh, both structured and soft, like a delicate body shield, protective and functional. I imagine the panels to be moveable, letting the inside in or absorbing the outside in. SOFT – MESH – WIRE-WIREMESH – ARMURE – SHIELDING
